Suffering from the Post-Vacation Blues? Tips for Getting Back in the Game at Work

Summer vacation – sunny beaches, relaxation, fruity drinks, quality time with family and friends – it’s easy to let yourself go and forget about your responsibilities. But how do you refocus when your week in paradise comes to an end? Trust us, it’s not easy, but it’s not impossible! Follow these tips for jumping back in the game and fighting the post-vacation blues:

Tackle Your Email

What does everyone look forward to most after a vacation? Yes, that’s right, reading the infinite amount of emails! When you open your email for the first time post-vacation, instead of hyperventilating at the size of your inbox, do a quick scan and weed out the unnecessary messages. This will help your inbox seem more manageable and direct your attention to the more important messages.

Write a To-Do List

Writing a good, old fashioned to-do list is great way to organize and refocus. List everything in order of priority, so you have a better sense of what is more immediate and what can wait. Once you have your work laid out in front of you, it is easier to jump back in and start knocking items off your list.

Take it One Day at a Time

You probably have a sky-high pile of work from being gone, but you can’t expect to do it all in one sitting. After you have your priorities listed out, take everything one step at a time. Not only will you prevent yourself from feeling overwhelmed, your work quality will also be better.

Talk to Coworkers

To get back into the work mindset, have coffee or go out to lunch with coworkers to catch up on the office happenings. After you hear about the different meetings that took place and who was assigned what, you will have a better idea of what requires your attention.

As much as you would like to be back on that beach, you can’t let the post-vacation blues drag you down at work. If you follow these tips, you will be able to re-immerse yourself back into work without a hitch, making it easier to begin plans for your next trip when you get home at the end of the day!
