Scraping windows, shoveling snow, layers upon layers of clothing – yes, it’s that time of the year again! Winter brings not-so pleasant weather with it, and as a result, there might come a time when getting to the office isn’t possible. If you are snowed in, working from home doesn’t have to be a wasted day. Follow these tips to help ensure you have an efficient work day from home:
During winter, it’s important to stay ahead of the weather. Pay attention to weather reports, so you are not caught off guard by an approaching winter storm. When one is on its way, pack your work materials, and talk to IT about setting you up with a remote server, so you have access to the office from your home.
Find a Quiet Workspace
Sitting in front of the TV with your laptop is not an efficient way to work from home. Find a quiet workspace where you can concentrate, as avoiding the distractions of home is essential.
Stay on a Schedule
Being away from the office might make it easy to deviate from your work schedule. Keep on track by using tools, such as calendar alerts, task features and to-do lists, so nothing accidentally falls through the cracks.
Working remote does not mean you have to be cut off from the office. In fact, a key to a successful work-from-home day is communication. Constantly communicate with your teammates about progress on certain tasks or if something new has popped up, so everyone is on the same page.
Winter weather can get in the way with a lot of things, but it doesn’t have to derail your work day. If you follow our tips, you are sure to have an efficient work-from-home day.
