Medix Teammate Spotlight: Kyle, Epic Recruiting Lead in Chicago

Medix teammates across the country are following their individual passions, while working to positively impacting lives. Often, curiosity and a willing to take on new challenges can drive these experiences. In our latest Medix teammate spotlight, we’re checking in with Kyle, who quickly learned the importance of a thriving corporate culture:

Please explain your current role at Medix.
My current role is titled, Epic Recruiting Lead. I manage the day-to-day operations of our Epic Recruiting Team in our Technical Recruiting Center.

What brought you to this role?
I came to this is kind of a roundabout way; I first started recruiting in the then new Epic Practice as my first job out of college. We saw a lot of success, but realized that there was a need for something new. When we developed a new delivery product, MedixDirect®, I moved into a sales role. After a couple of years of ups and downs, I was asked to join the TRC as a Recruitment Advisor. As MedixDirect® developed, we identified the need for someone to lead the day-to-day delivery of MedixDirect®, as well as any consulting related openings with Epic- that’s where I came in.

What made you decide to work for Medix?
If I’m being completely honest, I just needed a job. I didn’t even know the staffing industry existed before I applied to Medix. Little did I know that it would lead to such an amazing opportunity at a great company. If I’m giving advice to people interviewing for a job: pick culture first, and the job second. You’ll be much happier if you like the people you work with!

What are the characteristics young professionals need to possess to be successful at Medix?
I would say innate curiosity and adaptability. This industry moves fast, trends change and people’s decisions change. You need to be able to ask questions to get a full understanding of a situation, and you need to be able to fly by the seat of your pants at times. There is no perfection in the business of people. You mitigate what you can, and react appropriately to the rest.

When you’re not working hard at Medix, what are your hobbies?
I am a high school and collegiate men’s basketball official. From November to March, every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday is dedicated to student athletes. In the off-season, I am attending officiating camps in order to get hired into new conferences and move up divisions.

What’s your favorite memory about ‘back to school’ season?
I always liked shopping for new clothes, believe it or not.
