In today’s edition of the Medix Teammate Spotlight, we’re checking in with Mark, the Director of Strategic Solutions for Medix’s Scientific team, at our headquarters office in Chicago. While he came to Medix with a rich staffing background, the former NFL/CFL Running Back shares his thoughts about making unexpected career changes, what it takes to be successful and what makes the Super Bowl so super!
Please explain your current role at Medix.
My current role at Medix is to help the company achieve its immediate and long-term revenue goals. Specifically, I sell the engineering vertical within our Science Division. I am part of the National Accounts team, so my targets and clients are nationwide with multiple sites. Additionally, I collaborate with Account Executives in helping them gain engineering business with their clients.
What brought you to this role?
When I first began speaking with Medix’s leadership team about coming aboard, we discussed different roles and quickly realized there was a need within the organization to help drive and capitalize on engineering business. From my time in the staffing industry, I consider myself well-versed in engineering, so this was the right and logical fit. I believe I can make immediate contributions because I enjoy consultative selling, coaching and leading.
What made you decide to work for Medix?
There are a few key things that drew me to Medix, such as the purpose and passion of the executive leadership, along with the opportunity to build long-term value within the organization. My passion is to help people and get better each and every day. Similarly, Medix has accomplished phenomenal things during its tenure in the staffing industry relative to many of its competitors. There’s a reason Medix has been very successful and it’s because of the core values the company upholds. It was great initially learning about these through earlier conversations and even better to now witness it as a team member.
What are the characteristics young professionals need to possess to be successful at Medix?
I believe a key characteristic a young professional needs to possess to be successful is visualizing the success before it happens. In other words, set professional and personal goals while giving your best effort (AKA GRIT)! Along with this, a deep desire to help others is essential. These two important attributes are not independent and must coexist for short and long-term success.
When you’re not working hard at Medix, what are your hobbies?
When I’m not working hard at Medix, I’m spending time with my family. I’ve been married for 15 years, have an 8-year-old daughter, Chloe, a 5-year-old son, Thomas, and a dog named Tyson who’s a 12-year-old Boston Terrier. The kids’ extra-curricular activities usually dominates our time. When we’re not running out to soccer, dance, piano, taekwondo, or t-Ball practice, we just enjoy hanging out at home.
Favorite thing about the Super Bowl: The game, the commercials or the food?
My favorite thing about the Super Bowl is the experience of bringing family and friends together for food and drinks! I love the energy, fun and banter that comes along with it. I also love the game and understand that each team’s reason for coming together is to make it to the “Big Dance” – period! This is a huge accomplishment as there are 30 other teams that didn’t make it, but had the same goal. It’s why teams work so hard and individual players play through injury, for the rare chance to play in the Super Bowl!
