The Importance of Balance During the Job Search

Resume edits, job interviews, networking events – the job search can feel like a full-time job in itself, and burn out is a real possibility. The best way to combat this is by maintaining balance. Don’t try to apply for jobs all day, every day; make time for other things! Here is why:

Recharge

Never underestimate the power of down-time. It helps you clear your head and recharge. Read that book you have been wanting to pick up and tune in to your favorite TV show; do anything take your mind off your cover letter and rest.

Physical Well-Being

Make time for exercise while you are job searching. Not only will the endorphins be a great pick-me-up, but if you feel well physically, you can build more confidence and have a better shot at avoiding job search burn out.

Emotional Support

Make time for your emotional support system – your friends and family. Surrounding yourself with positive people is always important, but especially during the job search with these tough economic times. Vent about that tough phone interview, and mention that job you just found online that perfectly fits your skillsets; allow your support system to support you!

Nobody can devote their entire waking day to the job search, nor should they try! Keep balance in mind, and you can better avoid the job search burn out.
