Resume Tips

As a valued contract employee of Medix Staffing Solutions, we will strive to equip you with all the necessary tools for success. Your resumé is one of the most vital resources you have while embarking on a job search. In the brief moments a potential employer glances over your resumé, you need to make a powerful impression that encourages a closer look and further consideration. A well-organized and honest resumé that successfully portrays your most valuable employment qualities can be the perfect self-marketing tool to help land your ideal position.

Allow us to guide you on your job search by reviewing the following resumé tips outlined by Medix’s very own recruitment professionals. Remember, as a contract employee with Medix, we will not only provide you with these outlined recommendations, but we will also supply you with expert advice tailored to the position and organization at which you are applying. Commitment to ensuring our contract employees are as prepared and confident as possible is a top priority, as your success is our success.

Customize your resumé for each company and position.
Conduct online research and utilize other resources to understand what the company and position you are applying for entail. Tailor your experiences and objective statement to the specific job and provide only relevant evidence that you are the right fit for the position.

Keep the presentation simple.
Nonconventional fonts and extravagant colors in paper or ink can be distracting and inhibit easy reading. Stick to legible, black font on white or ivory paper to be safe.

Make your objective statement powerful and specific.
An objective statement is not a necessity for every person’s resumé; if you do elect to include one, make the most of the page space. Do not include a lofty, general goal. Instead, tailor it to the job you are applying for and use it to really make a statement about yourself and your aspirations.

Use bulleted points.
Avoid lengthy paragraphs by bulleting the points and skills you are highlighting in your resumé. This creates short, powerful sentences that read easily.

List chronologically.
List jobs and positions in the order they were held, starting with the most recent. It will read easily and clearly reflect your employment history.

Be concise.
The typical resumé reader will make initial judgments within the first 30 seconds of perusing a resumé. Keep it concise. Do not list every duty at each job; listing just your significant contributions to the company and position will be most effective in engaging and impressing the person reviewing your resumé.

Choose words carefully.
In your effort to be concise, make sure the words you choose are the most appropriate and fitting. Use action words when describing tasks and accomplishments to emphasize your impact. Try to include key words you think employers would look for in the particular field you are applying. This is especially important when submitting your resumé to an online search engine, as employers often run searches for certain phrases and words pertinent to the position they are filling. Make sure your resumé surfaces on their list.

Tell the truth.
Lying on your resumé can only take you so far. It may initially impress the interviewer and land you a second meeting, or it may even secure you an offer for the position. But what happens when you are asked to use the skills you exaggerated on your resumé? Stick to selling the honest traits, skills and experiences you have, and you will find a position that is truly fitting and gratifying.

Be sure to spell check and edit.
Excessive or careless errors and typos can distract the reader and take away from your credibility. Be sure to read through and edit your resumé several times. Having another set of eyes glance at it as well can catch overlooked errors.

Constantly update.
Make sure to keep your resumé up to date with your most recent experiences and accomplishments. Especially when posting online, it is easy to submit your resumé and forget about it until someone calls you. However, what if some of your recent experiences are just what a potential employer is looking for? If these experiences are not listed, the opportunity might pass you by.
