We’ve reached the end of 2013! You know what that means; it’s time to make your 2014 resolutions! Losing weight and joining a gym are usually at the top of everyone’s lists, but what about your career? As you’re reflecting on your impact as a leader and the successes of your team this past year, here are resolutions that can help you take your team to the next level in 2014:

Consider Strengths and Weaknesses

Not everybody works the same way – that’s the beauty of a team; it combines the talents of different personalities and skillsets to work toward a common goal. This New Year, make a point to always consider your own strengths and weaknesses along with your teammates’ to bolster your efficiency when delegating.

Improve Communication

Communication is a key component to any team, and as a leader, your communication directly impacts your team’s efficiency. In 2014, think of ways to improve your communication to your teammates. For example, do you mainly communicate important things via email? Try more face-to-face meetings, so your teammates get a better sense of your message through your nonverbal communication.

Lead by Example

Leaders set the standard for the way their team works. Is punctuality important to you, yet you come to the office a few minutes late? Do you multitask during meetings? Regardless of what you say, your teammates have probably taken queue from your actions to do the same. In 2014, walk the talk with your expectations, and your team will follow.

New Year’s resolutions are all about bettering ourselves. As a leader, take this opportunity to not only make yourself more effective, and your teams, as well. Have a safe and wonderful New Year, everybody!
