Due to last minute vacations and getting kids ready to go back to school, August is the month filled with a constant stream of teammates in and out of the office. Projects are on pause. The office is quiet. The work day feels like it’s getting longer and longer. You’re looking out the window and seeing sun and warm weather, but you’re stuck inside at a desk. You’ve hit the summer doldrums, and it’s infiltrated offices nationwide.
But don’t let boredom keep your career stagnant! Fight it with these four tips:
Remember the Little Things
When you’re going full speed ahead with big projects and immediate initiatives, little tasks are often back-burnered or forgotten.  “I’ll get to that when things slow down.” Well, things have definitely slowed down, so it’s time to revisit those long-standing to-dos! That little research project is the perfect way to spend this afternoon, and finally crossing it off your to-do list will feel great.
Think Ahead
If your work is relatively cyclical, you probably have a good idea what’s around the corner this fall. So what’s stopping you from strategizing and setting up these projects? Instead of checking Pokémon Go for the hundredth time, start brainstorming and put a project plan together. You’ll be thanking yourself when your workload ramps up!
Build Knowledge
If your to-do list has dwindled, productive reading is a great way to fill the time! Staying up-to-date on industry news and trends is a great way to grow your expertise within your field (and not to mention, impress your boss!).
Get Social!
Skeleton crew? Organize a team lunch or happy hour! It’s a great way to build camaraderie, get to know folks from other teams and finally get outside.
Summer always goes by too fast, so don’t let office boredom make you wish the season away! All you need is a little motivation and to remember this advice to enjoy summer in the office as well as outside.
