Medix teammates are locking arms in support of The Center for Information and Study on Clinical Research Participation’s (CISCRP) 2020 Medical Hero Appreci-a-thon.

This year marks the second annual Medical Hero Appreci-a-thon outreach event, a team building, virtual marathon that celebrates medical heroes, including healthcare and research professionals, as well as study volunteers. Last year, nearly 400 people across industry, research, advocacy and patient communities participated globally in the virtual race.

Here’s how it works: Participants drive donations by setting goals and tracking the distance they travel by doing any number of physical activities. Examples include cycling, running, yoga, walking pets or even climbing the stairs at home.

“As a clinical researcher and many time clinical research participant, I feel it is important that we ‘walk the talk’ in supporting clinical trials.” said Molly Downhour, Executive Director Clinical Research at Medix. “While the COVID-19 pandemic may have us confined to our homes, our team is excited to take part in the Appreciathon because it allows us to remain physically active for an amazing cause – our medical heroes.”

Participants can track their fitness journey on a virtual map of Sapporo, Japan – site of the next Summer Olympics. While this year’s games may have been rescheduled for 2021, event organizers are still encouraging those taking part to virtually travel the world from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

“At a time when many of our communities are being asked to shelter in place, I can’t think of better motivation to get up and get moving in a responsible way,” said Nicole Mills, Director of Clinical Research at Medix. “I’m taking part to show my support for all those who contribute to the safety and well-being of our family, friends and neighbors!”
