You’ve made it to the middle of the work week. Sometimes I feel like Wednesday’s sneak up out of nowhere, while others almost call for confetti, a bottle of champagne and six dozen balloons!
What kind of week are you having? Honestly. Are you feeling like the bug or the windshield?
What about the person in the cubicle or the office next to yours? What kind of week do you think that they are having?

Do they look like they’re withstanding the gusting winds of the work week, or do they look like they are getting smashed as they dodge a pair of wiper blades during a torrential downpour?
Sometimes it will be easy to identify if your coworker is struggling. Some obvious signs include:

  • They’ve had two pots of coffee in a short period of time, and they are still hunched over their desk like a toddler right before naptime.
  • You hear lots of huffing and puffing coming from their general direction.
  • Crying of any kind.
  • They actually tell you.

Sometimes it will take a little more empathy and detective work to figure out. It’ll be like Julius Caesar meets Sherlock Holmes. Before you sleuth around, I have a simple idea that will save you time and undoubtedly bring some office cheer to the coworker in question.
Gather these supplies:

  • Post-it notes or a piece of paper
  • A writing utensil
  • Some compassion

Did you know so many people carry around stress, sadness and struggles that most of us never know about? Did you know that sometimes people just need a little cheer to turn their day around? It sounds a little cheesy, but it’s so true.
So now here’s what you do with the supplies that you’ve gathered:

  • Pick someone to write a note to
  • Use at least one happy face
  • Stick it on their computer screen or keyboard

Here are examples of things that you can write:

  • “Halfway there! Weekend will be here before you know it!”
  • “My monthly target looked so high. I thought I was going to die, but you helped and I got by.”
  • “Love your sweater!”
  • “You’re the best!”

Your options are really endless, as long as you are being genuine and positive. The goal is simply to catch them off guard. Hopefully your fluorescent post-it will rescue them in their moment of near despair. The goal is to make your workplace battle cry one that is positive and impactful to those around you.
I hope that you are always the windshield; I hope that you always fly through your work week without conflicts or glitches! Just make sure that you’re looking out for the bugs and helping them along, one little note at a time.
