researching for a job interview

One of the most important things you need to do in preparation for a job interview is learn everything you can about the organization, because you will probably be asked, “What do you know about our company?”. Naturally, your first stop is going to be the company website. This is a great place to start, but there are certain areas on the company website and on other sites to take a look at to help round out your picture of the company. To help, we listed some top things to keep in mind while searching:

Core Purpose/Core Values/Mission

Go through the company’s website to look for its mission, core purpose or values, as this will tell you a lot about the kind of people who work there and the vision the organization has for moving forward. A company’s core purpose, values and mission are the backbone of an organization, so they give you insight into whether or not you would be a good cultural fit.

Recent News

Figure out what the company has been up to, if it’s won any accolades recently and other happenings. The website’s newsroom is a good place to start, but then check Google News and do a general search to see what else has been posted. This is a great way to not only impress the interviewer, but to see if the company is living its mission/core purpose/values and for you to impress the interviewer.

Social Media Pages

The majority of companies are on multiple social media platforms – visit them all! Look at the type of information they typically post, learn their voice and check out pictures of the team doing various activities. This is a great way to learn about their company culture!

Word of Mouth

Word of mouth information can be a little tricky when researching a company. Different people with different needs as employees always have different experiences with a given organization. So while word of mouth information can be helpful, you always need to keep in mind that people are diverse, and one person’s experience might not be the same as the next.

Knowing about the company with which you’re interviewing is essential in making a good impression. Before your next interview, follow these tips, so you can feel confident when speaking about the organization with your interviewer.
