Being healthy doesn’t necessarily mean signing up for a marathon or sticking to a diet that only involves binging on juice. There are simple, healthy habits we pick up in the summer because the warm weather inspires us to get outside! When healthy behaviors become a regular part of our routine, healthier work habits will also fall into place. The hardest part about summer activities is carrying them in to the cold winter months. Here are some tips to stay healthy when it’s hot, as well as the months that follow:
Strap on Your Running Shoes
One of the main components to leading a healthy lifestyle involves physical activity. Luckily, working out doesn’t have to mean devoting an entire hour of the day to a strenuous routine. During the summer months, it’s easy to take a 15 to 20 minute stroll before work or during sunset hours. When it’s warm out, there’s no excuse for staying cooped up inside; the problem lies in the cold winter months. Instead of using the dreadful winds and blistering chill as an excuse to not exercise, use the trusty stairs in your office building or home for your walking path!
Count Those Cals
In the summer, fresh, healthier foods are in higher demand, keeping waist lines thin and trim for the beach or pool. Eating light meals and snacks that include fruits, veggies and salad are skinny diet essentials. My personal favorite summer diet trick is eliminating meat for one or two days a week! Unfortunately, winter makes us more prone to scarfing down comfort food, carb-loaded meals and holiday sweet treats. One way to prevent fatty-food overload is to invest in a grill pan. Believe it or not, it’s possible to whip up some healthy cooking on your stove. Instead of letting the cold consume your healthy diet habits, work to maintain the healthier summer diet choices and it will pay off in the spring!
Party Time
Healthy living means healthy relationships. Socializing has a tremendously positive effect on mood and overall health. In the summer, neighborhood barbeques, pool parties and nighttime bonfires are just a few simple ways to spend some quality time with loved ones. This isn’t just fun for the weekends, though; productivity at work increases when employees are happy! However, when it’s cold and snowy in the winter, going out on the town is a little harder. To keep up on friends and family time, try to plan game nights at your place or meet up for dinner on the way home from work!
