Within a given work week, we commit our time and energy to multiple projects and initiatives. Some weeks are busier than others, and moving from commitment to commitment without letting anything fall through the cracks can feel easier said than done! Here are tips to help you juggle multiple commitments effectively:
Prioritize – Don’t Multi-Task
Multiple commitments in a short period of time does not mean you must multi-task! In fact, multi-tasking can make your situation worse. The quality of your work might slip and the details will easily be forgotten. Prioritize your to-do list and focus on one aspect at a time.
A great way to keep yourself on track is to actively communicate your progress with projects to your supervisor and/or your team. Communicating helps lay out what still needs to be done and builds your accountability for the remaining work not only to yourself, but others.
Ask for Support
When the number of commitments gets out of hand, it’s okay to raise the white flag. We’ve all been in that position where we have over-committed ourselves, so finding somebody who understands your situation and is willing to help won’t be as difficult as you think.
Working on multiple projects and initiatives is part of a typical work week for many, but if you follow these tips, you can be assured that you can juggle these multiple commitment more smoothly.
