The COVID-19 pandemic has changed everything, including the job search. At first, some businesses began shifting operations from office locations to remote work. This caused many job interviews to either be rescheduled or transitioned to virtual settings. Then, shock waves rippled throughout the global economy as the impact of the virus grew. The situation quickly transformed from a scheduling nightmare to job searching during a full-blown crisis.
In fact, according to the PEW Research Center, 33 percent of U.S. adults polled say that they or someone in their household has taken a pay cut, lost a job or both since the coronavirus outbreak began. With sobering statistics like this leading the news on a daily basis, it’s understandable for job seekers to be concerned. Questions like, “What do I do next?” and “Are companies even still hiring?” are essential. Unfortunately, times like these often lead to more confusion than answers.
That’s why we spoke with Heather, Director of IT Recruiting at Medix, for some advice. As a hiring expert, she’s been monitoring the job market and has insight into what job seekers can be doing to stay prepared. Her guidance for job searching during a crisis is featured in the latest episode of the Medix Impact Podcast.
